INTRODUCTION
Chai is the drink Indians can’t live without. It is so popular that wherever you go, you will be offered by the chai wallahs a scorching cup of this spicy, rich, milky, sweet tea.
Karha Chai is Babingtons’ version of this aromatic and mouth-watering blend, which at Babingtons in Rome we serve both hot or iced with sugar and milk.
The word Karha is the name of the mixture of spices used to prepare chai: ginger, cardamom, cinnamon and red peppercorns mixed with the intense Assam black tea will lift your spirits and recharge your batteries in a sip!

Goes well with: spicy dishes, curries, chicken and bacon sandwiches

Time of day: ideal morning and afternoon
Beneficial properties: a regenerating blend based on black tea, a true cure-all (a Rasayana tea, from the Sanskrit word meaning path of essence, which in early Ayurvedic medicine means the science of lengthening lifespan).
Black tea, known as “red tea” in China, is produced with fully oxidized leaves of the Camelia Sinensis. The tea plant contains vitamins, minerals, polyphenols and caffeine, which help us improve performance and concentration.
A common thought is that black tea contains more caffeine than green or white teas; this however is not the case. Caffeine is present in all teas and the quantity of the caffeine depends on many factors such as the quality of the teas, the altitude (often high grown teas are more premium), the terroir, the age of the tea plants, and most importantly the brewing water temperature and infusion time.
Preparation
Quantity: 2g for 150 ml of water
Temperature: 95 °
Infusion: 3-4 minutes

OUR STORY
The story of Babingtons begins at the end of the 1800, when black tea was the most popular drink in UK. Teatime during the Victorian age was as much celebrated in the United Kingdom as was in India. How could Babingtons not have a tea to celebrate India, a country so important to its story? And what better blend than a Chai! A spicy and rich blend of all-natural fragrances from the East.
Karha Chai is Babingtons’ version of this mouth-watering blend. The Assam black tea base is enriched with the wonderfully aromatic Indian spices, gifting us with an energizing, regenerating blend, a true cure-all!
The word Karha is the name of the mixture of spices used to prepare chai: ginger, cardamom, cinnamon and red peppercorns. Energizing ingredients which mixed with the intense Assam black tea will lift your spirits and recharge your batteries in a sip!
The base chosen for Babingtons Karha Chai is an Assam tea. Produced with the larger and thicker leaves of the Assamica variety of the Camelia Sinensis - the tea plant- it is appreciated worldwide for its malty, full-bodied flavour.
Assam is an Indian region situated in the northeast of India, at sea level and is the world’s largest tea growing region. The tea plantations lye north and south of the mighty Brahmaputra River which runs from east to west before flowing in to the Gange. A region in which rainfalls are very frequent all year round, creating the perfect environment for the Camelia Assamica to grow and thrive.
It is said that Robert Bruce, a Scottish adventurer, discovered the Assamica variety growing “wild” in this region in 1823. A great relief for the English, who loved black tea & so at the time it was in great demand.
One of Babingtons best sellers, Karha Chai is a true gift from India!
