Earl Grey tea is a classic tea blend flavoured with the essence of bergamot. This citrusy tea is known for its unique taste and aroma, and is enjoyed by tea lovers all over the world. But to truly experience the magic of Earl Grey, it's important to know how to brew it correctly.
What You'll Need:
Earl Grey tea bags or loose leaf tea
Fresh cold water
Teapot or tea infuser
Teacups
Optional: milk, honey, or sugar
Steps to Brew the Perfect Earl Grey Tea:
Boil water in a kettle or on the stove. Bring the water to 95° (not boiling) then pour it over the tea.
Prepare the tea. If using tea bags, place one bag in a teacup or teapot for each serving of tea.
If using loose-leaf tea, use a tea infuser or strainer to steep the tea in the teapot. Use 2 gr of tea leaves for 150 ml of water.
Add hot water.
Pour the hot water over the tea bags or loose-leaf tea, and let it steep for 3-4 minutes. To get a stronger brew, don’t steep for longer, but add a little more tea leaves.
Remove the tea bags or infuser. Once the tea has steeped for the desired length of time, remove the tea bags or infuser from the teapot or teacup. This will prevent the tea from becoming too strong or bitter.
Add milk, honey or sugar (optional). If desired, add a splash of milk, a drizzle of honey, or a spoonful of sugar to your tea. This will add a creamy or sweet flavour to your Earl Grey tea.
Another delicious way to enjoy your Earl Grey is to add a slice of orange, instead of milk, to your tea.
Serve and enjoy. Pour the tea into teacups and enjoy the rich, fragrant taste of your freshly brewed Earl Grey tea.
Tips for Brewing the Perfect Earl Grey Tea:
Use fresh, cold water. The quality of the water you use can greatly affect the taste of your tea. Use fresh, cold water from a reliable source to ensure the best flavour.
Steep for the right amount of time. Steeping Earl Grey tea for too long can make it too strong or bitter, while steeping it for too little time can make it too weak. Aim to steep the tea for 3-4 minutes at 95° for the perfect balance of flavour.
Don't overfill your teapot or teacup. Overfilling your teapot or teacup can cause the tea to become diluted or weak. Stick to the recommended amount of tea bags or loose-leaf tea (2gr per 150 ml) and fill the teapot or teacup with the appropriate amount of water.
Use high-quality tea. The quality of the tea you use can greatly affect the taste of your Earl Grey tea. Opt for high-quality tea bags, possible pyramids, or loose-leaf tea to ensure the best flavour.
